xxx has developed a new NH3 (R717) compressor especially for cold storage refrigeration. For higher safety it employs an indirect method using CO2 as secondary working fluid and limits the amount of NH3 refrigerant to approximately one sixth. Over a 15 years life time, the system emits 33% less greenhouse gases than a comparable HFC-404a system, and consumes 20% less power.
