Between 27 and 28 September, 150 participants, 40 speakers, 45 moderators, and 15 groups in interactive workshops will gather in Brussels to discuss what policy and industry can do to support the use of ammonia in developed and developing countries. In the afternoons, technical and market presentations will focus on innovations with natural refrigerants for different applications.
ATMOsphere 2010 - International Workshop on Natural Refrigerants - will bring together 150 policy and industry experts for two days to present and discuss HOW to bring Natural Refrigerants Faster to Market. 40 speakers will address the event and 45 moderators will manage interactive workshops that will follow each session.

Policy experts setting the scene in the mornings…

Two days of top level discussions are divided into presentations from policy experts representing various UN bodies, EU institutions, North America, Japan and developing countries every morning. High-level speakers will provide a latest update on policy frameworks and technological state of the art. Concretely, confirmed organisations include UNEP, UNIDO, TEAP, the Multilateral Fund, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the US EPA, the Environment Ministries both from the Maldives and Colombia, as well as leading NGOs Greenpeace and NOE21.

… followed by dedicated sessions on training, end users and developing countries

The middle part of both days will be dedicated on sessions that will discuss the crucial topic of training and education and present the perspective of retailers and end-users in general, as well as developing countries with India serving as the example. The three sessions include:
  • Education Session (lunch session - day one) with speakers from SINTEF, the Dutch Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Association, the German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA)
  • Retailers Session (day one) with speakers from the European Commission, Tesco, Carrefour, Danfoss, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration
  • India Session (lunch session - day two) with speakers from UNEP, UNDP, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Noé21
Technology workshops in the afternoons focusing on market innovations

The dedicated sessions will be followed by three technology sessions in the afternoon that will focus on latest market innovations that have helped bring Natural Refrigerants Faster to Market, within the application areas: Refrigeration, Heat Pumps, Air Conditioning. Some of the highlights include:
  • Alexander Cohr Pachai, Johnson Controls: High-efficiency NH3 and hydrocarbon heat pumps for low-carbon buildings in the EU
  • Nick Kawamura, Mayekawa: A new range of cooling applications using natural refrigerants
  • Kenneth Hoffmann, Star Refrigeration: Economic benefits of high temperature ammonia heat pumps (two case stories)
Interactive workshops at the end of each workshop

Following the technology presentations during the three workshops, all participants will be divided into 15 groups of 10 people including one moderator. Each group will comprise stakeholders ranging from policy, end users, suppliers, academia, associations and NGOs. Each group will have a series of questions to discuss and report back to the rest of ATMOsphere.

ammonia21.com will be reporting from the event as an official media partner.
