The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is now calling for papers addressing advances in HVAC&R systems, fundamentals and commissioning, as well as alternative technologies and net-zero buildings that will be presented at its 2011 annual conference.

Expected to attract some 1,500 attendees, the ASHRAE 2011 Annual Conference will take place next June in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Topics of interest

The technical programme of the conference will include the following tracks for which papers are now being sought:
  • Track 1 - Refrigeration: this track addresses this wide range of applications from the simplest applications to the most complex systems.
  • Track 2 - HVAC Systems: This track seeks papers and programmes that will discuss maintaining the indoor environment by use of common HVAC systems and equipment as well as hybrids and non-traditional systems.
  • Track 3 - HVAC Fundamentals and Applications: this track seeks papers and programmes that will cover a vast array of topics from the basics of engineering and thermodynamics to the most specific of applications.
  • Track 4 - Net Zero Energy Buildings: this track examines Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB) design, the cost to achieve this, existing Net Zero Energy Buildings, the cost to maintain such a building and how it will affect our future.
  • Track 5 - Professional Skills: this track will examine all aspects of business management that does not involve the actual engineering of projects and systems.
  • Track 6 - Engineering Tools: this track seeks papers and programmes that address the range of different tools available for energy modeling and Building Information Modeling, their use and specific applications.
  • Track 7 - Commissioning: This track seeks papers and programmes that will cover an array of topics including Cx and project team formation, design phase Cx, construction phase Cx, Cx for LEED©, Cx documentation, and Cx certifications. Commissioning of different systems, including HVAC, domestic water, lighting and building envelope will also be included.
  • Track 8 - Alternative Technologies: This track seeks papers and programmes that will examine growing technologies such as photovoltaic, geothermal, wind power and variable refrigerant volume systems, as well as how these systems affect the first cost and operating cost of the building.

Next steps & deadlines

The deadline for paper submissions is 17 September 2010, while draft conference papers will be due by 17 December 2010.

Accepted papers will be presented at the ASHRAE 2011 Annual Conference between 26 and 29 June 2011 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
