This third article provides a summary as well as an image gallery of a wide range of ammonia refrigeration related products that were showcased at the 2009 IIAR Industrial Refrigeration Exhibition earlier this week. More products presented in Dallas will follow next week.

This week, in Dallas several companies displayed their products for use in ammonia refrigeration systems. ammonia21.com attended the event among another estimated 850 participants, including manufacturers, operators, end-users and researchers. This article provides an overview of some of the products exhibited, as well as an image gallery.

MYCOM: Declaring to be very content to have joined ammonia21.com as the website’s first gold partner, MYCOM was present at Dallas to provide information regarding its MYPRO CP-IV computerised compressor controller as well as 3 series of compressors, namely the V-series (screw compressor packages), the C-series (compound two stage compressors) and the W-series (reciprocating compressor packages).

Danfoss: Danfoss showcased its ICF complete valve stations, which incorporate in one housing foundation up to six valve functions in any combination (mechanical, electromechanical and electronically operated valves), designed for industrial refrigeration applications with a maximum working pressure of 754 psig (52 bar) and approved for all common non-flammable refrigerants including R-717. The company also showcased the ICV intelligent control valve concept, with dramatically lower leak potential, direct weld-in connections and a replaceable one-piece function module that contains all the valve’s wear surfaces.

Process Compliance Engineering: The engineering company presented its Protexus programme, a five-year mechanical integrity inspection software programme engineered specifically for the ammonia refrigeration industry.

Vahterus: Vahterus displayed its Plate & Shell Heat Exchanger (PSHE), the first of a new generation of heat exchangers, at the heart of which is a fully welded pack of circular plates which is housed within an outer pressure vessel. PSHE is suitable for all refrigerants and especially for natural refrigerants such as ammonia or carbon dioxide.

Witt: Witt showcased HRP 5040, its hermetic refrigerant pumps whose stator housing is designed to withstand high nominal pressure, which ensures that no refrigerant will escape if the motor “stator can” leaks in the event of an accident. The company further displayed its high side float regulators for refrigeration plants and heat pumps, which enable a mechanical and maintenance-free solution for expanding liquid refrigerant from the high-pressure to the low-pressure.

Parker: Parker showcased its industrial refrigeration corrosion resistant controls, designed with corrosion resistant material 304L, stainless steel and aluminium, which allows it to withstand corrosive environments. Their improved designs have a high pressure, greater working temperature range and minimise the effects of system impurities for a more durable operation. Parker further showcased its S4AD dual position solenoid valve, which prevents the damaging effects of vapour propelled liquid and is suitable for ammonia. Finally, the company also displayed its LLSS refrigerant float switch, an ammonia suitable magnetically actuated switch that provides an electrical switching action in response to change in the refrigerant level.
