Based in Australia, Scantec Refrigeration Technologies specialises in industrial and commercial refrigeration plants predominantly employing environmentally benign natural refrigerants such as NH3 and CO2. In 2012 Scantec installed the first Australian ammonia (NH3) based commercial air conditioning system in a public administration building in Brisbane. In 2000 Scantec installed the first subcritical CO2 based refrigeration system in the Southern hemisphere. Collectively Scantec has more than 150 years experience in providing alternative refrigeration and air conditioning solutions employing natural refrigerants.

Scantec's services range from refrigeration systems design and installation, conversions from HCFC/HFC’s to natural refrigerants, plant analyses, product freezing, trouble shooting, automatic control and monitoring systems, computerised control and monitoring (SCADA) systems and preventative maintenance/overhauls in relation to industrial refrigeration and air conditioning plants for most applications.

The distinction between the central, low-charge NH3 systems provided by Scantec compared to others is energy efficiency. While other systems focus on NH3 inventory reduction through multiplexing, our focus is on superior system energy efficiency with the lowest possible ammonia inventory. With energy efficiency as the priority, the only answer is a central plant concept with utilization of all heat exchanger surfaces at all times. Compared with industry standard HFC based systems, this can reduce annualized energy consumption by up to 2.5 – 3 times and by 1.15 to 1.4 times compared with conventional, central liquid overfeed NH3 systems.
