On behalf of the European Commission, Öko-Recherche is monitoring the price of these refrigerants.

Öko-Recherche, an organisation dedicated to environmental research and monitoring, launched last week (on April 4) a survey on HFC prices.

Europe has experienced significant price increases on refrigerants since the implementation of the new EU F-gas Regulation in 2015. On 1 January 2018 the overall allocated quota of HFCs under the F-Gas Regulation fell from 93% of the original baseline to just 63%, pushing prices of HFCs up more.

Finding out “the actual effects of  [the HFC] price increases on investment decisions and market developments” is what Öko-Recherche is trying to do as part of a report for DG CLIMA (European Commission).that is now preparing.

“Öko-Recherche has developed a methodology for regular price monitoring and analysis of price developments”, its website notes “It allows gathering and evaluating data on purchase and selling prices of commonly used refrigerants and their alternatives at all levels of the supply chain (gas producers, gas distributors, OEMs, and service companies)”.

The project, which began in 2015, is supposed to be completed this year.
